Claridges Barn Gardens

Drs. David and Jill Edwards purchased a derelict barn set among redundant agricultural land, some 35 years ago.

The meagre barley crop was gradually divided into garden, woodland, and meadow. Sitting in a rather exposed position, they began planting windbreaks of native trees as well as Norway Spruce. More recently, ornamental trees have been added to create a wider interest.

The garden was then compartmentalized into ‘rooms’. Rubble from the barn renovations was used to form mounds to introduce varying height paths and walls, and a pergola was built using a variety of reclaimed materials. Several second-hand cedar glasshouses were also constructed. Borders were planted with an array of roses, shrubs, perennials and bulbs.

David and Jill grow a wide range of fruit and vegetables and produce cut flowers for their house.

Join us in this three-and-a-half-acre family garden and enjoy the spectacular views and tranquillity that the garden provides.

Chivel Farm Gardens

John and Rosalind Sword moved into the large house over 40 years ago and set about renovating the property which hadn’t been touched since the 1930s.

Formal parterres of box were planted and mixed borders contain interesting and unusual perennials as well as rare trees and shrubs. Erigeron is allowed to self-seed among steps and paving to create a beautiful effect. As one comes further away from the house the planting becomes more informal and connects seamlessly with the surrounding countryside.

The owners are keen to evolve the garden and develop new planting combinations.

Cotswold Garden Tours invites you to experience this beautiful garden and listen to its knowledgeable owner.
